I was raised in Park Slope and while attending St. Francis Xavier, I was watched after school by the Boyle family of Sterling Place. Their house was the only left standing from the terrible 1960 plane crash. I found a interesting article on the event called "Pillar of Fire" which was sadly the name of the church that was on the corner of Sterling & 7th. Since we can't post a link, go to Google, type in "Pillar of Fire" or "Park Slope Reader" if you would like to check it out. |

Father Keene was a joy. We had heard he was in poor health so I wasn't expecting the vibrant youngish 82 year old I sat down with. He is as witty and funny as I remembered. As an alter boy back in the 50's I had sensed a little twinkle in his eye that the other priests didn't have, and it's still there. It must be the Irish in him. He regaled us with stories and the memories came flooding back. Talked about everything, the saints AND the sinners. I hope we get a chance to spend some more time. After I left I thought about a million things we hadn't touch on ,so I'll need at least a dozen or so more 3 hour lunches to catch up. Thanks to Mike and his friend Jack I was able to relive some very happy times |

Father Joseph Keane.... As Mike said below, he as as sharp as a tack. All Mike, Harry and myself did was listen. Just picturing him on the pulpit giving his sermon. It was such a great feeling sitting with him. It took us almost one year to get this together. It was well worth it. We are hoping to do it again soon, can t wait. We are possibly having some hookers here in February, that will be great also. Enough from me, I have to leave something for Harry to say. so long for now. |

For all you Red Hooker with a good memory. Today Harry Boyle, Howie Graves and myself had lunch with Father Joe Keane. Father is looking good and still has a great personality. We reminisce the people and places in Red Hook for a few hours. We talked about Father Maroney, Father Saxton and the different Sisters of Saint Joseph that taught at Visitation School. The Visitation bazaar. The people and families that he remembers from Red Hook. Father Keane is still as sharp as a tack. He sends his regards to everyone from Visitation parish. |

Hi Rachael, Are you freezing in Chicago? I sure remember both the Paris Court and the Albee (one of my favs). I moved from Van Brunt St to Degraw Street and used to walk to the Albee and The Met and Strand (remember that one?) There was another next to the Strand, I forget the name. College Bakery was a few blocks fro my house. I lived a block from the canal, oh those fragrant summer nights! It has been cleaned up now. Lived across from O.Z. and M. J. both companies family owned (MJ = Mike Jr) I ended up working there in early 60's. Anyone from St. Agnes? |

While I am reading the posts on the site I clicked onto the archives by mistake and it is all right so there must be a problem that Mark has to look into. You have to go along the screen to read these posts, I guess we have to put up with it for a while until it is fixed. Come on, we are understanding people right? Patience................Louise |

Hello hookers who were those creekers anyway. I seem to remember the ads the hookers will meet the creekers today in some game . I remember those summer nights when all the parents would sit out chatting in their beach chairs in front of 416 van brunt . I lived in 414 and the Valenti'es lived downstairs . eventually Marco bought a house across the street . Friday was pizza night at Tony's . Sure was nice when someone went to Willems or Mikes for sundaes . The streets were filled with kids playing games like kick the can or co co allevio ...... and many more . Swimming at red hook pool was a 10 cent treat . Sure I remember the Albee threatre and the Fox , and the Paramount, loes metropolitan , the avon , the prospect ....... geez so many .And the rock and roll shows too ! And going to horn and hardet and watching those change counters ... wow were they fast . Amazed to see Sam's still open and him alive too on court street .God i drove down coffey street the other day and its was bumpy and wavy still with cobblestones ....ha ha Oh well just dropping bye to say hello.... god bless ! |

To Mark So many people love this site & appreciate all your work. I think it's one Sad Bad apple that likes to be such a pain. I am on another list & to post there you must be registered. They have your name, address, phone no. and E-Mail address. If you are not on the register, with a pass word you can not post anything. I register as Couglin, my maiden name. They called me up as my phone is listed under my married name to confirm everything. In the long run it may be the only way to keep all the bad apples off this site. It's sad to think someone is so unhappy he would create problems on this great site. Thanks for all the good work Mark. Eileen Coughlin |

Hi Ken Brown,
My mom and I lived in the Pioneer when I was little. The other owners name was Mr. Algiers. Not sure if I spelled it correctly. But those were the good old days. Mary is still alive! Wow, God bless her.
