During the 2nd World War the "Hotel Sullivan" Was for the Navy men whose ships were in the local shipyards. As a young kid I can remember that the sailors had Roll Call everyday Out in the Street.During this time all the kids would sneak in to get a 5 cent bottle of Coca Cola It was the first Coca Cola Machine in Red Hook. I grew up on Dikeman St. across from the famous Jimmy Gallagher, and right next door to the noisey Fischers. I would love to hear from Tommy Gallagher. Johnny Perna - leave my sister alone. You had your chance in 1966. Does everyone remember the Bums at the Hotel Sullivan and how wonderful they smelled on hot days in August? Tommy, where are you? |

Cousin Michael, I heard about Andy through my mom. I would be interested in getting a copy of your CD when its done. Let me know how much it would be and shipping costs and I'll send you a check when its ready. My brother Steven would probably like one too. I bet you could sell alot of them to members of our family and when word gets around of how talented you are, others from this site would want it also. Don't forget to let me know when you finished it. Tell Donna i was asking for her and would like her to write. I'm very happy for cuz Freddy. That's all for now, keep in touch,Love Irene |

How about earliest memories.
I remember being about 4 or 5 years old. We lived at 56 Walcott St. Just around the corner from Daugherty’s Saloon at the corner of Richards St. It was during WW 2. I remember we kids could walk into Daugherty’s and dip your hand into the large pretzel cans near the door. The bartender, maybe Pete Brennen, would chase you, but it seemed only after you had a handful of pretzels. I remember an entertainer, dressed like Pope Eye the Sailor would come in every so often the sing and dance etc. I found a great way to make money by asking the sailors at the bar for a nickel or a dime. It was wartime and they would give it to me. This was great until my Mother found out and was mortified. I caught it from her, but I couldn’t see what was wrong with a great way to get nickels. I remember Ross McDonald and his sister was part of the group. |
