Hi Dominick 1960, wow. I was 17 and in the Red Hook Projects at that time BUT now I live on Commerce St. I have been here 15 years. Did you know Helen and her husband Vinny? They lived here forever, right around the corner from me next to the resturant? Small world, well Red Hook was a tight community back then. My building where I live was gutted and completely done over. What was your address? Louise |

I just learned that my cousin, Margie Hilt passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005. Margie was the daughter of Helen Hilt aka known as Aunt Dolly and sister to Theresa who was married to Skippy Rose, and brother Jim Hilt who lives in Florida. Jim served in the Army in WWII. They lived on Van Brunt Street across from Tony's and candy store (Morrisey's?) As children they lived on Beard Street where my mother, Catherine Rownan Carlsen was born. My mother and Aunt Dolly were sisters. Just thought some of you would want to know. Bob Carlsen |

Woe is me... Since signing in on this site I have been getting spammed every day. Since this is the only site I've used my maiden name I'm aware of the starting point. Sorry but I felt you would like to know about it. |

Chaplin Nick I think it a great thing if people could purchase a copy of the DVD. I am not on it ,but if not too expensive I would purchase a copy. However, if I was on it, no price would be too great. I know it would be a lot of trouble for you. What do you think? Also regards to my exclassmate - your loverly wife Connie. |

note to readers: Bob Geelan is retired and lives in Bethlehem Pa. He is an Historian, and served as the New Jersey State Keeper of records appointed by then Governor Brendan Byrne, and re-appointed by Governor Tom Keane. He has been graciously assisting me in my quest to establish the "Heritage Trail" here in the Hook. His contributions have been, and continue to be, extremely helpful to me during my research..... |

Since there have been references recently to Christ Chapel,John Burkard suggested that I pass on the following info. My great-grandfather, Benjamin Correl was the first Treasurer and a vestryman of Christ Chapel when it was first constructed in 1868. It was reconstruckted in 1899 and the old building was used as a parish hall. Benjamin Correl lived around the corner on Sullivan street and operated a livery stable which was operated by his son George Correll until the 1920's.My father, Edward A. Geelan, who was born in 1884 at 102 Pioneer St.(it was William St. then) was baptized and confirmed at Christ Chapel along with his four brothers and two sisters. When I contacted the Chapel a few years back, the name had been changed to Church of the Holy Child Jesus and the congregation was mostly Hispanic. Christ Chapel was an outgrowth of Christ Church which later moved out to Bay Ridge. My congratulations to Mark Phillips and the people of Red Hook for maintaining such a great web site. |

Dear Kate Graves, My Mother was good friends with your Mom and Ann Gulbrandsen they worked together at White Rock for many years and your Mom used to visit our home often for Christmas parties. My parents Amelia and Charles Kruger send their regards to your Mom. They attended the wake and funeral mass at Visitation and were deeply saddened by the loss. It is so unfortunate as she gave so much to so many and that her life ended so soon. Please say hello to your Mom from Carol, Amelia and Charles. |

The "Cookin in Brooklyn" show with Chef Alan Harding will air tonight 03/01/05 from Steve Deptulas Liberty Heights Pub. Steve is an active member of the Red Hook Community and is working with me to establish the Heritage Trail through our neighborhood. It should be interesting as Steve takes the chef to task who is trying to cook authentic style Italian pizza? It can be viewed on Ch's 286 sattelite/ or 114 cable, and will air all this week..... |
