Why is it called South Brooklyn?

The communities of Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Gowanus, Red Hook, and Park Slope comprised the southern portion of the village of Breukelen - one of the six original Dutch villages that are now the borough of Brooklyn.

I was sad to hear about Ann Meyers passing. I remember her well. My sister Maureen and I send our condolences to the Meyer family. On a happier note: HELLO to Kathleen Browne. We're a long way from Wolcott St. and the summers out in Huntington!!! I can still see your Mom and Dad out on the patio on Saturday night listening to the radio while they drank their beers. Great memories!

I just read the guestbook entries for the first time in a couple of years. How delightful to see those Red Hook names I remember! I graduated from Visitation School in January of 1956. The only classmate I talk to with any regularity is Donna Scroope, who now lives in Staten Island. (I'm in Massachusetts.) I would love to hear about, or from, anybody from Visitation School or from Walcott Street (between Richards and Van Brunt)...gone now for a school, as you probably know. For anyone reading this who remembers me: HELLO!!!

Dear Richie, Bobby, and Russell, Please accept my condolences on your mom's passing. Your mother was always one of the nicest people in the neighborhood. She was one of the people that made Red Hook feel like a neighborhood. I remember her so well from back when Richie and I went to school together. Dikeman Street is a sadder place today. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Bob McDonald

Hi everybody...Just got back in after strolling on Van Brunt St. My how it is bustling, just busy busy busy. Did you guys know that we now have an Antique Store right there on Van Brunt St. Took a walk inside, not bad. They have an old chrome table with the pleather chairs that my Mom had when I was hummmmmmmmm how old? You couldn't tell us nothing, we were the elite. Hahaha. You see, I really like old stuff so really, who ever likes that stuff, check it out. I forget the name of the store that was there but it was like a department store to us back then. BBBBBBBUT I think the renting of the apartments here in the point has come to a slow stop for now any way. Oh and one of the stores also on Van Brunt called Luce with that little thingy over the E? It's a clothing (sic)store which the ad says fashion has fianlly come to Red Hook. A little black long dress with embroided red flowers on it, they want $185.00 and it looks like a second hand dress, can you believe it? But all in all Red Hook was like I said busy busy busy.....Louise
