ok first let me say I lived in south east brooklyn for only a little while 51/2 years between 1950-1956, I lived on columbia street in the projects. I remember lotsa stuff like the two parks we called the big and little park, the reason was the big park was big and lol!!!! I went to the clinton theatre and played in the 4 foot pool, I even remember a candy store i went to, but nothing more about it, I remember my little brother and I got cap guns for christmas one year and decided to go out to center court and shoot them off at 3:30 in the morning, we just about woke up the whole neighborhood, I laugh when I think of it but it was kinda sick, hahaha!!! I remember playinf stoop ball, blind mans bluff, red light green light stick ball, box ball, and punch ball or at least watched a lot of it. The reason why I share all this with you is because I have become a proud parent of a new baby boomer site and want you all come and watch it grow, and share with us your memories of growing up, we so look forward to seeing you all there.... just copy and paste into your URL bar
http://www.webspawner.com/users/tgdbbw254/ please come by and enjoy thanks and thanks for being part of brooklyn |

Seeking information regarding the house at 401 17th street between 7th and 8th avenues Brooklyn. In a newpaper account c1938 it was refered to as the Vincent residence, said to be 100 years old at the time. Anyone having knowledge of it's present status and/or history can e-Mail me in confidence and will be gratefully appreciated. This information is important to my geneological search. |

Hello Everyone:
My name is Ron Clyne. I've been called Ronald, Ronnie and Ron among other names I can't mention here on SBN. I've attached an e-mail sent earlier to Family and Friends regarding a Trip to Monmouth Race Track that we are having in June (June 26th Sunday) to honor my Brother Mark who passed away last March. The proceeds of the trip will go to a scholarship we have set up in his name at Bishop Ford.
Mark would have been 49 years old in April. 5 Generations of Clynes lived in Red Hook. The Clyne's were my Mom and Dad George and Kitty. Brothers and sisters in order: George, Larry, Kathy, Ronald, Craig, Austin, Mark and Deirdre. We lived at 47 Wolcott Street. Our cousins lived on that block as well, the Carlson family. In the other direction (also on Wolcott) were other cousins the Coughlins(Sullivans). Yes those Coughlins that you see post on SBN from time to time. Eileen, Mike (Ft. Meyers) and Jimmy.
I've posted something at the VFW Post and there seems to be some interest. I will be attending the "Reunion" on May 21st at the VFW and will be available then to talk about it if anyone planning on attending is there. I hope to see some of my old friends there.
Warm Regards,
Ronald
Anyone interested in the following please respond to my e-mail address here on SBN.

Hi Anthony(Dumplin) Yes we spoke one day. Yes you did trade comics with my brother Peter. Those were such good times growing up back then and there were alot of good friends. You know I was talking to Francis Cleary(don't know if you remember him) and he told me that Bobby Cantana was down here in Red Hook on VanBrunt St.Well really the Point as it was called back then. He came down to see the Statue of the DoughBoy that once stood in Coffey Park. It now is on VanBrunt St at the VFW. Mrs. Celia still lived at 817 Hicks St after all these years and passed away about 5 years ago. She wouldn't go to Florida with her sons. I don't remember your wife but Ryan sounds very familiar, did she have a brother around my age? I'm (gulp)62 now, yikes. My brother passed away 2001 and his wife Fern(Denmark) passed away a year later. He turned out to be a winner of a brother and son but hey things happen and he is missed I'm sure by his kids and grandchildren, I didn't know him anymore but that is life. My Mom is gone too, now she is missed, she was one in a million. I remember your Mom Betty and hahaha JohnnyBoy. I enjoyed your post. Hey do you still have that pompurdor(your hair)? We were all something else growing back then....the 50s. That was a lifetime ago...........Louise |

Hi Kathleen, my maiden name is Conti. My brother hung around with the Red Hook Dukes, it sounds tough but they were really a nice bunch of guys. My Dads side all came from around Court St. My cousins lived on 1st Pl. and today they are spread all over, as far as Washington State. There are some I haven't seen in years and then there are some who still live on 3rd Pl. who I wouldn't know if I was up face to face with them, and they are all just about named Peter. Thats an Italian custom, being named after the grandfather. Norman may remember Donalds girlfriend Chicky. I think I'm going to go on the web site rootsweb also, who knows maybe I will meet some of my long lost family. Thanks...............Louise |

Hello Louise. Sonny's real name was Adrian. I remember when all my cousins died. All to young. My cousins were 14 in all. Three are still alive and kicking, Grace, Audrey who was known as Honey and Warren who is married to Florence. Warren is on the Island and the girls are in Florida. It took me close to 40 years to find them. If it wasn't for Norman's daughter Helen Brophy putting out a message on rootsweb.com I would not have found them. Helen's Mom also came from the "Hook", family names Harkins, and hope I spelled this one right Swegginias. Lithuanian like my mother. Irish names much easier to spell. When I go back on ancestry.com this August I will look up any names that you wish to know about.
Hope to hear from more folks who knew my Fanning's. MY cousin Honey's sons are now home from the war, thank God. What is your family name Louise so I can call my cousin Warren and tell him that I found someone who remembers his family. It will make him so very happy. I do love my cousins dearly and all my friends from 17th in Park Slope who were there for me & my sister Ellen when our Papa died. Thanks guys love you all...
God Bless All.
