In response to Joe Fillare about the monument in carroll park. I am a native of downtown brooklyn - and grew up in that Park during the 70's. Met my husband there :) Its been a few years since i have been back. I have fond memories of sweet ole brooklyn -- there is no place like it! |

Tone down the comic book stuff or I will start taking down the posts. I let you guys do what you want most of the time, but this is getting a little ridiculous. Have a little respect for everyone on the site. |

For Joe Fillare, I had to set the record straight and spell your name correctly so readers would not be confused. Trouble with these sites, once you push the button, it's too late to change your mind(LOL) |

Recently there was some interest in Brooklyn's war memorials. The memorial in Carroll Park(one of Brooklyn's oldest)was erected in 1921. CARROLL PARK WAR MEMORIAL Carroll Park( Smith & Carroll St) Serving as the symbolic centerpiece of this neighborhood park and playground, the Carroll Park War Memorial honors the memory of those men from the surrounding 8th Assembly District who lost their lives in military service during World War I. The monument consists of an 18-foot tall pink granite stele to which are mounted front and back bronze bas-reliefs of soldiers and sailors, crafted by Brooklyn-born sculptor Eugene H. Morahan (1869-1949). On either side are bronze honor rolls listing those who paid the supreme sacrifice for their country. The frontal image represents a soldier mourning his slain comrades while the rear composition’s central motif is that of a sailor on watch. A gift to the City, the monument was commissioned by a local committee at a cost of $9,000 and dedicated in 1921. In 1994, as part of a $1.3 million upgrade of Carroll Park and playground, the monument, its sculptural reliefs, and commemorative plaques were fully restored. October, 2001 |

Peterparker, sorry to say I'm not familiar with the names, Gloria, Millie, Mollie, Anna, that you provided. I am familiar with Ally and the others at Buonocore's grocery store, although not related. Names in my family were Ralph (Bunny), Pat, Joe and Louie. My grandfather remarried into the Avissato family, who owned Mom's Bar on Conover St.

I am still savoring the re-union I attended down the "Hook". Thanks again to everyone that made it possible.
Before I moved down the "Hook", I lived up on Court & Bergen St. I'm just hoping that some of my friends from up there have found this web site. So is Junior or Joey Serrano out there. How about Danny Napoleon Schiavo or his brothers Rocco or Tommy. How about Joey Di Angeles or Albert Rahey. I was with Albert when he caught a home run ball in the 1964 world series. How about anyone that graduated in the Class of 63 from St Peters School. |
