I was born and raised on President street. My family in Brooklyn used to own Falcone Funeral Home a business my grandfather started way back when. I have been living in Jupiter Florida for the last 15 years. Very beautiful place to raise children (beachfront community) but sometimes I get the urge to come back to NYC. Red Hook sounds interesting. |

To Susan Lagana, My parents bought their house on 2nd St. and Hoyt in 1960 from the Lagana family. (The name is still on the brass plate over the doorbell). Any relation? BTW, my father is a redhead, originally from DeGraw and Strong. My mother comes from Van Brunt |

This is for the morons, John & Halle. You have nothing better to do than sit and write this garbage? I may be just as bad reading it but come on guys get off this site. I know you have been reading all the posts, do we sound like we would be interested in your bull? Maybe this is some sort of code???? You can't be too careful these days either. Mark, if I were you I'd report them. This is not right that they abuse this site. Get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

to Kim... That meat market didnt ring a bell. although the ones along court street would. I was from first Place between court and clinton streets. Those stores from those days -- are considered gourmet today -- nothing like the past in south brooklyn!! |

Hi John I went to 27s from 48 to 56.Yes the ceremony was in the Clinton. Yes again. The siren was on top of the 624 Clinton St. building. Red Hook was the best back then. I'm still here but down the Point now. Where did you hang out? I remember a red haired guy living down by your end. I can't remember his name for the life of me. Do you remember Melvin Ginsberg? His brother was in a wheelchair? I often wonder what ever became of them. They lived down by you. This site holds so many memories, alot of people lived here and left here but Red Hook will always be home............ |

Hi everyone, i just received the 1940 tax photo for our house at 102 dikeman st, and sent my mom and sisters copies. my wife got it for me for a father's day present, one of the best i have had in years. my sisters were in tears as they shared the memories of the old neighborhood. it is especially nice to have the photo, because that house burned down around a year after we moved up to the finger lakes, around 1950. i highly recommend anyone getting the photos, around $40 from i think the www.nyc.gov site. Hey Eddie Donohue, nice to hear you are still kicking, i remember the great times we had in high school. i remember you had such a crush on the math teacher, ms. Diesenhouse, who could blame you. I also remember you grew the best vegetables in your front yard on coffey st. |

Hello everyone, an old classmate of mine told me of this site. What a great place. I have been reading all morning. I lived on Bush Street and went to PS 27, then moved to Dikeman Street and went to PS 30, where I graduated in 1954. I went to Church at Christ Chapel. If any one remembers me or my sister Linda or brother Jim I would love to hear from you. |

Need help for a friend. My friend was born in Greenpoint B'klyn back in '44. Her mom died from TB and she was adopted. Had a half brother who we think is dead. Charles Baker born around 1932. Family names Reiman, Baker and her name at birth was Elizabeth Kelly, her Dad was Alfred Kelly. Please if anyone should remember these names let me know. Charles was in the Air Force then came back to Greenpoint to live. This is all she knows. Thank you for listening. Katy |

I remember the 8:00 whistle which I guess was from one of the nearby factories. My Mom was an air raid warden in the early 50s, oh my God I remember that so well. Everyday at 12:00 the siren would go off. It was on top of the building on Clinton St. We had the smells of Larsens, fresh bread and cakes being baked. Yummy!!! Who remembers going to PS 27s and going to the grocery store with Butch and his Mom, Nunziata on the corner of West 9th St. They made the best potato & eggs, and the meatball sandwich was to die for. The Italian bread was so good and at 15 cents a loaf. Then there was Irenes on the corner of Luquer & Huntington Sts. She also made good sandwichs. Her nephews were Anthony and Frank Mari. They lived above the store. What a great time to grow up in. |
