Hi Listers: I lived in Red Hook Projects (Center Mall) from 1939 until [at] 1953, when my folks moved to Bedford Avenue. My sisters, brothers, and I all attended Visitation, and I served Mass there. I have enjoyed reading about the Pioneer Theatre and the Clinton, and recall many times laying Indian Head Pennies on the Richards Street Trolley Tracks, whichg really flattened them. Swimming on the docks was another treat, down by White Rock. Always hung out at an Ice Cream Parlor down around Van Brunt Street. |

READING THIS WEB SITE AND STORIES ABOUT THE SINGING GROUP'S FROM THE POINT, I'M REMINDED OF MY FRIEND'S AND HANGING OUT ON THE GRIFFINS STOOP ON COFFEE ST. (BET. VAN B. & CONOVER ST'S.) WE SPENT MANY AN EVENING SINGING ON THAT STOOP AND NEVER WERE ASKED TO BE QUIET. SOME NAMES, MICKEY DAVIS, JIM HUGHES, JOHNNY & GEORGE GRIFFIN, GUNNAR NELSON, JOHN HAGGERTY, BILLY WAGNER,BOB MC SHEA, JOE MURNANE, TOM YOUNG. THIS WAS IN THE LATE 40'S. AFTERWARD', ON TO WILLEM'S ICE CREAM PARLOR ON VAN BRUNT ST, WHERE A QUARTER WOULD GET YOU A MARSHMELLOW SUNDAE AND A SMALL COKE. THOSE WERE THE DAY'S. NEVER FORGOTTEN. |

Hi to all, Love this site and remembering the days in the 50's and 60's spent with my grandparents on Coffey Street. Some of the best memories of my childhood.I always thought Harry Boyle was the coolest guy because he wore sunglasses indoors.Funny the things you remember. I wish I had all the baseball cards I bought in the candy store around the corner. |

The brother I never knew: Charles Baker, son of Rose Reiman, born circa 1933. In 1942-43, he lived at 83 Freeman St. with Rose, our mother, and Alfred Kelly. Our mother died in 1944. Charles went to live with Aunt Kitty BOHLER in Manhattan. Related families: Beattie, Reiman, Baker, Kelly, Bohler. Any info most welcome! Liz |

Hi everyone! I check back every few weeks to see if I recognize any names. I was raised in Carroll Gardens...went to PS58, St. Mary's on Court Street, and then to Bishop Ford HS. My family used to live on 2nd Place between Court and Clinton. Had many a fun day hanging out at the Rex Cinema, Carroll Park, and "The Milky". All my best to everyone from South Brooklyn! |

Hi, I just read Eileen's email and I had gone to Red Hook with a friend who was a lifeguard at Red Hook pool when I was about 9 years old. We noticed that the "16 foot" pool was now a wading pool. We continued down to Red Hook to see the sites again. The memories are so peaceful and there are still no traffic lights on the main streets and no insanity. I grew up there in the early 50's and life was different. Things change but our memories don't. |
