Ya know mark, they probably order one or two slices of cold cuts and one banana -- cause they are paying much tooo much for an appartment! I remember when that change came about of the "new comers" moving in. we would call them the "liberals". Then the rents started to sky rocket. |

I am Barbara Ross' cousin and I am going to be participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer event Oct 1-2 in her memory. If anyone is interested in walking with me or making a donation in her memory please feel free to email me and I will pass on the information. Barbara and I used to go walking all the time, it was her favorite form of excercise and I think she would be proud that her family and friends were participating in such a worthy cause in her honor. |

Mark August 27th is the 229th anniveersary of an important action in the Revolutionary War played by Fort Defiance which was located in Red Hook during the Battle of Brooklyn. Your local historian, John Burkard has written a great article about it but is perhaps too modest to call it to your attention. Have your viewers go to www.thehistory box.com/ny_city/nycity_bklyn_fort_america article00312.htm Look for article "The Fort That Saved America" written by John Burkard. |

Now come on folks, you idiot morons are going to ruin a really great site for us oldtimers. Have a heart or maybe a half a heart, get off this site. Didn't it sink in that Mark just may close this site down on us? We are all so sad about this. Old friends have been able to reconnect with one another, families have found long lost cousins, brothers, sisters and yes old lovers if you took time to read about our friends Lucy & Chino. They found each other thru here on our site. I read her post and whalaa they called each other and got married. Leave us happy and let us continue with out your nonsence and your coded messages. Make up your own site, PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE. We promise we wont come on your site, isn't that right people??????? Louise |

thanks PAT for your message. am a staten island native and reason why i am asking if anyone has knowledge of a similar site for bensenhurst: my younger brother, al, is a widow, one year. he has been having dreams about an old girlfriend paula fazio who used to live on 6th street in bensenhurst. we have tried almost everything these past few weeks and we are at a dead end. does anyone know of, say, a bensenhurst area weekly newspaper or daily newspaper on which someone can post a personal message to try and find this individual. he has no wish to disturb her life if she is married., etc., but just wants to know that she is okay. thanks for any assistance. vivian escudero |

Hi Ed, From what I hear about the Brooklyn Motor Inn it caters more to the no-tell motel crowd than to out of towners looking for a place to sleep. Most of the time when people visit with us from out of town they stay at the Hotel Gregory in Bay Ridge or at the newer more reasonably priced Comfort Inn on 39th between 4 and 5 ave. But if you are traveling alone and don't mind the clientele you might be better off that the Brooklyn Motor Inn for convenience purposes. |

I will be coming to Brooklyn on October 1 for a small neighborhood reunion (Williamsburg). Last year I spent one night in the Brooklyn Motor INN. It was good for one night. Can anyone tell me if it is still a reasonable place to stay for one or two nights. Thanks. |

I hate the way the neighborhood, South Brooklyn, Carroll Gardens was sold out from those who made the neighborhood so desirable. I don't even recognize it! These newcomers, or whatever you want to call them, go into a deli and order two pieces of ham, buy one banana and so on. How cany anyone do business like this? When we bought our food it was always, give me half a pound of ham or cut me a chunk of provolone. I guess a real estate site wouldn't see it this way, afterall, they are making a killing by overcharging these losers that are all too happy to pay big bucks just to seem that they are in the "in" place. |

To Mark about the SBN guest book. You have created a web site that many people enjoy. To let some people ruin this site would be a shame. Maybe consider having some one help you monitor the site for the spamers and idiots. There are some people on the site everyday that would be willing to help. |

mark -- you are doing a great job with this site. But, sometimes those posts are computer generated. I wonder if there is a person who even reads yr Emails complaining...I moved away from First Place and i still love downtown brooklyn and would love to live there however that is out of the question. So, i enjoy reading about it. |

Human Flotsam, vagrant, impoverished people, floating through this life, unable to have real connections. Worshippers of offensive radio personalities. Their BEST is to annoy others. I've only had a computer a few months, but Mark, there must be a way to get a quick delete. Get a "Robespierre of Red Hook" to push that delete. This site is special, & beautiful. |

All of us normal , adult people LOVE this site and truely appreciate it!...And you!...So many of us have "Hooked up" with old friends and sweethearts!!! I myself have gotten response from very dear friends and I even hooked up with my Soulmate after 39 years! This site does much more good than anything... I am sure it annoys you when these Morans post...but there are alot more sincere people on this site , than MORANS!!! I think all of us reading this that are thankful to you , should take time out to say it! And I think if any of you are interested in finding an old friend ... or are interested in knowing whatever happend to.... You should post their names as you knew them and post your name as it was...Thanks again MARK! |

For Mark Phillips, You have created a wonderful website with the SBN, and the guest book is but a small part. I know it's very difficult, dealing with these brainless jerks who seem to get their jollies out of upsetting other peoples successful endeavors, perhaps because they are jealous, and haven't the ability to accomplish as much themselves (who knows?) There are many, many, good people from all over the U.S.A. who use and enjoy your creation. I would ask you not to punish them for the childish antics of these characters. Please just keep deleting and try not to be too upset over these hooligans. I myself have met people who have been a great assistance to me personally in my historic research pertaining to Red Hook, some as far away as England.I'm sure others can relate similar storys to you about the friends they have met, or the long forgotten relative, or some other inspirational tale. Please keep up the good work. |

OK. I have politely asked and emailed most of you individually to ask you to stop with the nonsense posts on this site. If you want me to leave this up as a resource on my website, have some respect for me and the others who access this site. I have enough to do taking out the spam messages without dealin with this other crap. AND it is crap. I will take this guestbook down for good if it doesn't stop now. None of this makes sense & it makes other people who come home to read the posts think we are all jerks. Grow up and let the adults enjoy this site for now. Thank you fellas because I doubt if a female would be doing this......Louise |

Regarding Vivian Escudero's note ... Don't you just love the SBN site! What a wonderful idea, and just perfect for all of us who have such fond memories of those times & places, and such a curiosity about "..I wonder whatever happened to ...". You truly don't hear about other neighborhoods with such a yearning to connect again. (I must be the poverty & hard times shared ... and it sounds like we all turned out pretty damned good, too! We certainly proved the statistics wrong!) I think we are unique .. I don't know if there are other "neighborhood" websites out there. 30, 40, 50 years ago we would just open the window & call to our friends & neighbors; this site is now our open window! Regards to all from "the hook". |
